The Cosmopolitan city

“In New York smolders every race problem there is,  but the noticeable thing is not the problem, but the inviolate truce.  Harlem is a city in itself, and being a city Harlem symbolizes segregation;”

“Under a recent city ordinance, however, apartment buildings that are financed with public money or that receive any tax exemption must accept tenants without regard to race, color or religion.”  E.B. White, Here is New York.

I found this map about “RACES and ETHNICITY” in the New York City area. I think it’s interesting to compare E.B White’s statement of 1949 with a more recent     map about this theme.
